Lord Alf Dubs is one of Labour’s most respected figures.

Now in his 90s and still in the UK parliament, he’ll be talking about his experience of migration during the Kinder-transport (WW2) and his lifelong fight for refugees' rights.

His unparalleled understanding of the plight and needs of refugees and migrants, and international policies on migration, coupled with his deep faith in humanity make for a truly gripping moment.

Himself a refugee (fleeing Nazi persecution), he has spent his life fighting for human rights and social justice as member of both houses of parliament and extensive involvement and responsibility for charities working in the field.

A self-declared Humanist, Lord Dubs fled Nazi persecution in Prague when still a child. By the time of the 1945 election, he was already passionately interested in politics. In 1979, he became a Member of Parliament. A few years later he was made Shadow Minister for Immigration, Refugees and Race relations. Afterwards, he became CEO of the Refugee Council and joined the House of Lords in 1994. In 2016 he sponsored an amendment to the Immigration Bill, to bring to the UK 3,000 child refugees from camps in Europe, especially Calais and the Greek Islands.
