"A lack of third spaces is causing the shrivelling of our social worlds."
Sarah Stein Lubrano
Third spaces (distinct from your home and work) are essential parts to building communities that are collaborative, thriving, and resilient. These spaces include, but are not limited to, parks, cafes, libraries, bars, and community centres. Existing and thriving third spaces are important for democracy, civic engagement, and help to provide sense of place in communities of all sizes and compositions.
Start using existing spaces within your community that provide a space that is distinct from home and work. Re-envision standard commercial locations like your neighborhood meeting spaces into local co-working spaces or organising centers that host active meetings regarding labor, community safety, or workplace concerns.
