GINA RIPPON
 THE GENDERED BRAIN

MillenniumTalk /  Tues 4 Feb / 5.00 - 6.30 pm

Neuroscienceit may sound like a complex discipline with nothing to do with our daily experiences, but Gina Rippon thinks otherwise. She argues in her groundbreaking new book that beliefs about how gender shapes our brains are misguided, and she has the science to back it up. Instead, she thinks we need to come to see our brains as hugely malleable and shaped, more than anything, by society and the expectations it places upon us, especially when it comes to gender.

A hugely topical and eye-opening talk that will change the way you think, and the way you think about thinking, forever.

ABOUT

Gina Rippon is Professor of Cognitive Neuroimaging at the Aston Brain Centre, Aston University, in Birmingham, UK. She has also sat on the editorial board of the International Journal of Psychophysiology. Her research involves the application of brain imaging techniques, using cognitive neuroscience paradigms on studies of normal and abnormal cognitive processes. This work has been applied to the study of Autistic Spectrum Disorders and developmental dyslexia. Her latest book is the groundbreaking The Gendered Brain. As a watershed in the history of science, Rippon considers her findings comparable to "the idea of the Earth circling around the sun".
